Former Ohio Baseball Coach Dies
Former Ohio University baseball coach Bob Wren, who won 464 games in 24 seasons with the Bobcats, died of cancer Tuesday. He was 81. Wren, who became coach of the Bobcats in 1949 following six years in the St. Louis Cardinals' farm system, was 464-160-4 and his .724 winning percentage ranks 12th on the NCAA's career list. He retired in 1972. Wren never had a losing season and led Ohio to 11 Mid-American Conference titles and a College World Series appearance in 1970. Among the 11 future major leaguers he coached included Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt.
